- China has gifted its largest and the most advanced warship to the Pakistan Navy.
- The Type 054A frigate is meant as a major boost to Pakistan’s naval prowess, according to China’s state-owned newspaper Global Times.
- The frigate, named PNS Tughril by the Pakistan Navy, is the largest and most advanced warship that China has ever exported.
- It was designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) and was delivered to the Pakistan Navy in a commissioning ceremony in Shanghai.
- The warship is the first among the four frigates that Beijing has committed to Islamabad, according to the deal was signed in 2017 between the two all-weather allies.
- PNS Tughril reportedly is a highly advanced guided-missile war machine with enormous surface-to-surface, surface-to-air and subsurface firepower besides extensive surveillance potentials, or as Chinese media puts it — “world-class stealth capability”.
- According to a statement by the Pakistan Navy, the frigate is equipped with modern combat management and state-of-the-art self-defence capabilities.
- Prepared with an electronic warfare system, it can reportedly simultaneously execute a number of naval warfare missions in a highly intense multi-threat environment.
